The Gene Theater was opened by May 1951. It was named after Eugene Talmadge, former governor of Georgia in the 1930’s and 1940’s. It was closed in the late-1970’s. The vacant building has been offered ‘For Sale’ since at least 2023.

In better days, the Gene Theatre, pictured in Boxoffice of May 5, 1951.
I really wish i hadn’t clicked on the 1986 photo what a crying shame!
Would anyone have a picture of the Gene Theater. The above link of it pictured in Boxoffice of May 5, 1951 is broken. It has been closed since the late 70s and was named for Governor Eugene Talmadge of the 1940s. He was from McRae, Ga. where this movie theater operated. It is in a state of disrepair now. We would love to see an image of it in its glory days. Thanks, Telfair/McRae Ga. Historical Group

Any pictures of the interior?
The address needs to be corrected to 15 S 1st Ave. Google Street View shows it looking abandoned and the same in 2024 as it did in 2008.
