Cinema Bristol first opened on 4th March 1961 with Charlton Heston in “Ben Hur”. It was also known as Bio Bristol and possibly also as King’s Cinema in the nineties from 1993.
A second hall was opened in Bristol in 1979, but removed in the major 1998 renovation. The number of seats fell from 671 to 601 when renewing the seats and removing a row to give more leg room. A new projector was brought in, and the air conditioning was replaced. The renovation was by cinema specialist firm TK-Architects.
The Cinema Bristol was closed in December 2010 with a screening of “Ben Hur”. By 2022 it was operating as a restaurant.
