The basement was used by the Munich Gerner Brewery, with the two upper floors used by metal workshops and the top floor by a printers. The cinema space was designed by architects Francis Chambers & Son.
In 1911-1912 alterations were made by architect J. Emblin-Walker, it reopened as the Avenue Picture Palace, and it catered to the local Italian community. The seating capacity had been reduced to 376-seats It was closed in September 1914, possibly due to the nearby Sadler’s Wells Theatre starting to screen films.
