The August 11, 1937, issue of The Film Daily had this announcement of the reopening of the Columbia Theatre in East Liverpool:
Two photos of the Columbia Theatre appear about two thirds of the way down this web page provided by the East Liverpool Historical Society. This house might be the one that someone suggested was built for other uses. It was an odd building that never really looked like a proper theatre. It finished life as a meat market before going totally dark, losing its marquee, and eventually being demolished. It was always know as a B house and a lot of the older folks in town remembered never going there because of the rumors of it being dirty and having rats!!
I WENT TO A LOT OF MOVIES AT THE COLUMBIA THEATRE AS A KID IN THE 50’S AND 60’S. AT ONE TIME THE THEATRE CLOSED DOWN AND REOPENED MONTHS LATER IN THE EARLY 60’S AND THE PRICE WAS ONLY 35 CENTS TO SEE A TRIPLE FEATURE! HECK, WITH A BUCK, YOU COULD SEE THE 3 MOVIES, GET POPCORN AND A COKE, AND STILL GO HOME WITH CHANGE!
