Located at the rear of Barry Railway Station. Billy Butlin opened a holiday camp at Barry Island in 1966 which contained an Empire Theatre equipped for films. Butlins Holiday Camps offered an ‘all inclusive’ holiday, which included, acommodation, food and all entertainment.
In 1970 the camp started issuing day admission tickets to day-trippers, which included access to the cinema. This caused quite an uproar from the Barry Town cinema proprietors.
Later the cinema was converted to a coffee bar and amusement arcade. The camp was closed in 1996 and demolished in 2005

This was one of the few cinemas equipped with Bell and Howell projectors.
The holiday camp site was sold for £2.25m to Vale of Glamorgan Council, in October 1997, who demolished the camp and sold it to Bovis Homes for housing development. Now known as Bryn Llongwr, two, three, four and five bedroom houses were built on the site between 2002 and 2003
