The West Hills Theatre opened around 1942 and was closed in 1962.
Although still recognizable as a theatre, the West Hills Theatre looks like it’s had a hard go of it lately, like much of the surrounding neighborhood. Following a period of use as a storage facility it was demolished on September 9, 2016.

West Hills Cinema built 1941 and closed in 1962,seated 625,may have had a balcony. Today it’s an American Van Lines Moving Company. It was gutted after 1962 to become a moving firm. Its rear exterior still shows where the sound speakers jutted out behind a movie screen.
This entire area is to be redeveloped into a water stream in 2015 so most of the structures for 2 whole miles in this area will disappear.
This water stream conversion is to accomidate the old sewer system which becomes overburdened with street water run off and sewerage during heavy storms. The transformation will create a parklike setting for a full two miles in this area.
With a backhoe parked at its rear wall, can demolition be far away? The large Weil Thoman moving company has removed its numerous vans and itself from this property .
A sad end for one of Fairmounts last cinemas, West Hills Theater was bulldozed to a pile of cement rubble Sept.9,2016. RIP West Hills althought I never lived here when it operated.
