Barnwell, S.C. was a growing city near the Savannah River Bomb Plant in the 1950’s.

Close to Augusta, GA and Aiken, SC it had a choice of shopping areas. It was also home to the Starlight Drive-In. A very simple drive-in for a quite simple town.

It would hold 250 cars and was one of three drive-ins in this city. Oddly, all three drive-ins in Barnwell in the late-1950’s were owned by ladies.

The Starlight Drive-In was owned by Mrs. J.F. Dobson. Like so many drive-ins by the 1960’s, with more television channels in Augusta, GA. and Columbia, S.C., more folks just like elsewhere were staying home.

The locals enjoyed several good years with a choice of three nice drive-ins.

Nick, you are right it is hard to add to these long forgotten Drive ind,but I just hate to write only sentence because these old passion pits deserve more than a line even if it is filler.
