Hi David,
This response is a bit late, but I can answer your question:
Through a strange set of circumstances I actually stayed at this motel in the 1970s. I can confirm that you definitely could not hear the movies from the motel.
As far as seeing the movies, you couldn’t see them either as the screen was facing in the opposite direction to the entrance and you wouldn’t have been able to see it from any of the rooms.
As far as hearing, in those days you drove up next to a speaker that you put into your car to hear the movies. So you wouldn’t be able to hear them either.

When this drive-in was operating, could the movies be seen or heard from the motel?
500 cars. The drive-in closed in 1986.
Opened on 23/5/1952 with a cartoon(The Anvil chrous girl), “Champagne for two” and “Crosswinds”. 500 cars. The motel is still(open), with the snack bar(and playground and ramps and bio box and screen fountaion?) still standing, the rest of the drive-in has been demolished.
The drive-in was “abandoned” but not yet gone when mentioned in the 1996 book Road Trip USA.
