The Bijou Amusement Co. opened the 400 seat Ritz Theatre around 1940. The theatre was located on Lasalle Street at Felicity Street. This was an African American Theatre. It was closed on February 29, 1964 with Vincent Price in “Diary of a Madman” & Dolores Michaels in “Five Gates to Hell”.

It became the New Hope Baptist Church.
