Plaza Cinema

The Plaza Cinema opened on 28th December 1934 with Bing Crosby in “We’re Not Dressing” and Shirley Temple in “Little Miss Marker”. It was the first theatre to be fesigned by architectural firm Cowper, Murphy & Appleford. It was independently operated, and was closed on 20th December 1975 with Bruce Lee in “Fist of Fury” & “The Chinese Connection”.

In 1979, the foyer was converted into retail use. In 2010, the foyer is still in retail use by a mens' clothing store named Gaz Man (it had previously been a Just Jeans store), and the auditorium is in use as a gym. Apparently above the false ceilings there are the original decorative details.
