Photo of an unknown organist playing the Capitol’s 4/21 Robert Morton Theatre pipe organ, Opus 17496, 1925. The 4/21 designation refers to the number of manuals (keyboard’s) and how many ranks (sets of pipes/voices) the organ had. For Robert Morton, this was a prestigious installation for the west coast based firm. For theatre organs, twenty one ranks was a good sized instrument and would’ve been a much better asset sonically, musically and versatile than the theatre’s in house orchestra.

I forgot to mention in the above post, the opus number refers to the factory build number. Having an opus number is a common practice in most, if not every pipe organ manufacturer.
