The Strand Theatre opened in 1924 with seating listed at 894. The theatre was twinned in 1988 and was renamed the Strand Cinema Twin. It is located in the heart of the downtown business district. The theatre closed in 2009 and was put up ‘For Sale’.
Following renovations it was re-opened by Ralph & Jamie Hickox as the Historic Strand Dinner Theatre with quality food and first rate service delivered at your seat. Nothing is pre-cooked, so it takes a little longer, but it is good food. Now with 3-screens, every seat in all theatres is an electric leather recliner with a personal table. Spacing between the aisles is an amazing 7ft. With decor providing an ambience from the 1920’s Art Deco style, we give you a sense of a ‘blast from the past’.
What to expect? A relaxing date night or family outing. Catering primarily to adults, couples and families, minors 15 or under must be in the company of an adult 21 or over. Patrons from all over southeast Georgia are welcomed every day.

I used to ride my bike to watch movies at this theater back in the 60s. One of the scariest afternoons of my life was spent in that cinema. We were watching a wolf man and mummy matinee and a few minutes into the movie, we noticed that the wolf man, the mummy, dracula and various other creatures were getting closer to us. They had hired actors to dress up and walk through slits in the screen as far as I could tell. When I saw the mummy coming towards me, I ducked, hoping with all my might that he didn’t see me. The next thing I know, someone is tapping me on the head with big gnarly fingers. I darn near peed my pants. I played dead until he walked sway. Whadd'ya want I was only about 8 years old….
