Located on S. Preston Street at E. Caldwell Street, the Dixie Theatre opened in 1925 by the Big Theatre Rights Corporation. It was an African American theatre operated by Mr. D. Wilson.
The theatre closed in 1953 and has since become a Poultry Market.

Here is my picture from November 2010. I’d imagine that this would’ve been one of Louisville’s Negro theaters, as this has always been a black neighborhood.
Currently this is the home of a poultry butcher shop.
The Dixie Theatre was built in 1925 for just $8,000 by Big Feature Rights Corporation for African American patrons. It was one of ten such theaters in Louisville and the only African American neighborhood theater that lasted more than 25 years.
