Located in the Wellington suburb of Miramar. The Capitol Theatre opened on 1st December 1928. By December 1930 it had been equipped with sound apparatus. It was operated by Kerridge-Odeon chain in 1952. It was closed 1964, and converted to shopping mall.

Purchased by several people including film director Peter Jackson in 2003. Renovation of theatre was due to start in January 2010 and was scheduled to reopen as twin in September 2010. However, it was demolished, apart from the façade, and the newly built Roxy Theatre was constructed on the site.

The Capitol was completely demolished and NOT restored. The “renovations” is actually a completely new cinema, named THE ROXY.

There are photos of the Capitol being demolished on the net.
