Her Majesty's Theatre

This 1,759-seat theatre opened in 1898 as Her Majesty’s Theatre. Following the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, it was renamed His Majesty’s Theatre. It was mostly used for stage productions and a few movies including a run of “Fantasia” which played here in 1940. The theatre was owned by Consolidated Amusement (Famous Players). With a change in the British monarch, it was renamed Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1952 when Queen Elizabeth gained the throne.

The theatre was closed and demolished to make way for a parking lot in 1963.

The theatre was actually opened as “Her Majesty’s” under the reign of Queen Victoria and changed to “His Majesty’s” after her death in 1901. With the accession to the throne of another queen in 1952, the theatre’s name was changed back to “Her Majesty’s” for the remainder of its days.
