Located in the central Rio district of Cinelandia, and close to the Cine Palacio. The Cine Metro-Boavista was built by Loew’s Inc./MGM in 1969. It is on the site of and replaced the Loew’s Inc./MGM operated Cine Metro-Passeio.
It has a commanding corner location, and was equipped with Cinemeccanica 70mm projectors, that could screen Dimension-150 films on a highly curved D-150 screen. It was the first cinema in South America to be equipped for Dimension-150. Among the films shown were "The Bible" and "Dr Zhivago". Seating was provided on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear, instead of an overhanging balcony.
The Cine Metro-Boavista was closed in the early-2000’s and has stood empty and unused ever since.
