The Elmfield Picture Hall was opened mid-June 1912. It was owned by Bulmer & Akroyd, who operated cinemas in Leeds and Halifax, and it was built by the Halifax based building constructor J.W. Bulmer Ltd.
Also in 1912, the Picture House was built adjacent to the Elmfield Picture Hall, and had the same operators. The Picture House was later re-named Savoy Cinema and was converted to sound films. At around this time (early-1930’s) the Elmfield Picture Hall was closed.
In January 1937, both these buildings were demolished and Associated British Cinemas(ABC) built their new New Savoy Super Cinema on the site.
