The Park Picture House opened in 1911, and was extended in the 1920’s when a balcony was added. Operated in the 1930’s by Associated British Cinemas(ABC), it later went over to an independent operator.
It is chiefly remembered for the time when it was home to CinemaScope when the circuits were reluctant to install the full Stereophonic sound system to go with it. It is reported that the screen fitted at the Park Picture House was too big for the hall, and it was later a second-run suburban cinema again, closing in 1964. It was demolished in 1967.

Are there any photographs of the inside of this cinema? I’ve been unable to find one anywhere. The site fascinates me as it’s very near my home and I still can’t believe they flattened it just to leave the site empty.
Finally - found the first interior photos thanks to the CTA. The place was demolished in 1967 after the owner closed it on spurious grounds in 1964 and could not get permission to turn it into a car sales place - he wasn’t up for bingo.
