Super Cinema

The Picture House was opened on 26th June 1916, designed by architect T. Taliesin Rees in a conversion of the old post office. It was operated by J.F. Wood’s, Bedford Cinemas Ltd. It was later renamed Super Cinema. In March 1928 it was taken over by the General Theatre Corporation(GTC), and in May 1928 they were taken over by the Gaumont British Theatres chain.

It led a seemingly uneventful life until it was closed on 29th September 1956 with “Anything Goes”. It was then used for a variety of purposes including ballroom, furniture store, and finally a Hong Kong garden buffet Chinese restaurant, which had closed by 2020.
