Opened in 1977, the Forum Theatre, Hatfield, Hertfordshire was not the most attractive of buildings but its facilities were more impressive. It had a large stage with full fly tower and generous foyer space which doubled as an art gallery.
Films soon joined the events presented here on a large screen flown out of sight when not in use. Generally only the balcony (251 seats) was used for film screenings.
After a short and uneventful life, the Forum Theatre was closed and later demolished in 1999/2000. A new multiscreen cinema had opened in a new shopping mall constructed above the A1(M) road out of London. The site of the Forum Theatre is now a car parking plot, next to the Swim Centre.

The location shown on the map is incorrect. It was on the opposite side of St Albans Road West from the Swim Centre. The site is now a car park which is marked if you zoom in enough. The heating for the Forum came from the Swim Centre. I worked there as a technician from 1978 to 1981. During my time the projector was installed.
