Chuck 1231,i wish i knew where it was located, living Augusta i had never heard of this or the Booker Drive-in until I found that moldy old 1956 motion Picture Almanac. I know they to have been near if not in the city limits especially,if they were for black moviegoers.
Bob.I will call the Bethaham Community Center,a black center for history of local African-americans.They would probably be the only source because THE AUGUSTA CHRONCILE has no ads what so ever on the BOOKER or Hi-De-Ho Drive-ins.Thanks for any help.
To each his own Bob.
tisloews, ?if no one knows the address, how does anyone know it’s not still on the site? An interesting, but sad thing for me to do is to walk around old drive-in sites and take photos. Sorta hard to do, if you don’t know the location. Perhaps others like to do the same thing. That’s why CT has a spot for an address.
Lighten up Bob,whats with the address if its not there anymore?By the way Cab Calloway was great.
This drive-in was open from ABOUT 1955-1964, I hope someone can come up with better dates?
Hi-De-Ho was made famous by Cab Calloway, the bandleader of the United States' most popular African American big band.
Augusta is a big town and evidence of the drive-in might remain. I guess tisloews dosen’t care to know the address, but if you know it, I sure would like to know it!
Thanks Nick and Mike.
Very nice intro Mike. I’m hoping you do hear back from the society. Hopefully they keep back issues of any newspaper or flyer where this drive-in would most likely have been advertised. Otherwise you’ll have to rely on someone who is still connected with the society that remembers the Hi-De-Ho. If not then maybe they’ll refer your inquiry to someone familiar with this drive-in. Good luck on this one!
This one will be a hard one to find info on,but i am looking.
