Like most drive-in’s located near Columbia, S.C. or Augusta, GA., it had to find its locals and keep them coming back. The Saluda Drive-In was a no frills operation. Very plain, rural in its look. The town of Saluda did have a nice downtown theatre also called the Saluda Theatre, and is used for local plays and such, but the Saluda Drive-In didn’t make it into the 21st century.
The Saluda Drive-In was opened around 1950 and closed in the-1960’s. It did park only 150 cars and was owned by J.E. Ridgell.

What if you are from Tennessee?
Well, tlsloews plez add to the drive-in.I know from reading CT members there are a few from Carolina, even though,i could be closer to Saluda.Sidney Poitier,in the early 90’s shot a movie in Saluda,I am pretty sure called “SEPARATE BUT EQUAL” i think the downtown theatre in the city square, the SALUDA, is seen in the film. There is some extra info. I think the SALUDA is on CT.

Drive-in is visible on aerial photo from 1969.
NYozoner, do you know if that aerial photo is available online? I live on that small stretch of hwy and would love to find more information on this drive-in!
Approximate address is Middleton Lane, Saluda. Nothing remains of the drive-in, now trailers and a business.
