Pines Drive-In

The Pines Drive-In located in Tifton, Georgia was typical of your small town drive-ins. It was opened by Martin Theatres by 1950. Typical summer bill would mostly be a good western, about the same as most drive-ins in the era, a quick game of Bingo and a feature.

Heading to Florida, you can’t miss Tifton. I-75 runs right down the middle. The Pines Drive-In, in 1956 was putting 300 cars on the lot. It was still open in 1970. Don’t know when it closed so I hope others will help with the history of this South Georgia drive-in.

I have been sitting down and trying to remember every theatre in Georgia i have visited, took pictures and get on CT.so many small towns left to do.I know you have hundreds just in Middle Tenn.I would like Nick to put them on,but he is so busy with his Tampa theatres.I guess you saw Robin’s post on National Hills.

CORRECT NAME IS:

pineS.

Anyone have photos or an address?

I THINK it opened ABOUT 1950?

It was still open in 1967 and was still owned by Martin Theaters of Georgia and Alabama, Incorpoated of Columbus, Georgia.

I understand that the Interstate Hiway System first started in Tifton.

The entrance was located on 458 GA-35 in Tifton. It appears that the theater was demolished in the early 1970s. Now Cracker Barrel sits in the site.
