Oh,I know for a fact there are at least two more theatres from the Silent days in Augusta,I just got to get the time to research like you,I screwed up as mentioned above,i really thought the city had the building torn down and the other day coming from a show I decided to turn down 9th street and WOW, Capers and Associates had turned the old Palace into Office space, but in that section of Town maybe a plumbing company or something Blue Collar might operate out of there, not a nice section. You have been to the Civic Center, you know that ain’t where the MASTERS is played every spring!
Mike, Great job on this nicely written story! So Augusta also had a Palace Theatre. I wouldn’t be surprised if there are even more old Augusta theatres that need discovering. The best was is to glance at the microfilm ads for the 1930s 1940s & 1950s. Pick any few days for those decades and see what you find. I think you may be surprised to see ads for theatres in Augusta you never even heard about!
Cinema Treasures, I messed up. I drove by the PALACE theatre today and a local commerical Builder had turned the Palace into Office space. The last time i drove by the Palace all that was up was four walls and and the stage and fly area above.I assumed, and i shouldn’t have, that the city finished tearing down the walls. It would be hard to tell it was a theatre except for the rear with the stage and fly system still there. But the Palace is still up as office space.Sorry, for the wrong information.
