On Ocilla Rd or Ocilla Hwy there was a small drive in. You can still make out the sweeping outline of the tree line of the back row area, from upper left to lower right. The screen was facing away from the highway, on the left side of this shot. Still visible in 1993 Google Earth.

2084 Ocilla Rd, Douglas, GA 31533

The above address will map accurately to the location of the drive-in, which is visible on Google Earth using historic aerial imagery.

Above address does not map properly. Use 1931 Georgia 32. This is the radio station across the street.

Mike,

I am writing a pictorial history of Douglas. I would like to use this photo in the book if possible. Is it yours? If not, do you have one I can use to include this theater in the book?

My dad lived in Douglas from 1974 to 1977 when he took a job there that paid better than his previous job in New Bern, NC did. Whenever my brothers and I visited him (usually during summer) we would pass the Skyview Drive-In on the way to his house west of Douglas. The Skyview was a Martin Theatre, co-owned with the downtown Martin. Unfortunately for my brothers and I, he never took us to either theater; he thought that one television station (WALB-10 Albany) was enough entertainment for us. But every time we went into town we passed the Skyview. My dad retired in 1977 and went back to New Bern; at that point both the Skyview and Martin were still operational.

The address (according to Google) is 2010 Ocilla Hwy, Douglas, GA. Today, CHR, a women’s health center sits on the property with no trace of the old drive-in save for the general outline. http://tinyurl.com/hzxrmyz
