I adjusted the street view photo. There is now a Payless Shoe store and a pizza shop where the theater used to stand. I saw many movies here in the late 70’s including Star Wars in 1977.
It opened in 1975 – I saw “Young Frankenstein” and “The Towering Inferno” there when they first opened.
signsell; Please click on the map and check out the location. Did I get the address correct? If it is wrong, even just a little, it can be changed, let me know.
Mark, I kid Coate with that comment. I don’t really have a problem with Michael’s info, but with Michael’s problem with Mike Rivest. Rivest has put together a fantastic list of theaters which I know has errors, but he still is a hero to me. Coate’s meticulous lists on CINERAMA, 70mm, etc. are PERFECT, and he’s my hero too.
My thought, especilly on these small theaters that never have any comments after they are listed on CT, is to try and throw some mud up on the wall and see what sticks. In other words I’m stirring up the s**t and trying to get other folks to comment. I hope I don’t put up any bougus info though.
Thanks for your thoughts on ~. I never learned about that a long time ago in college (I could have been looking out the window). I will try to use it, tell me how I’m doing. I don’t think most of us simple folk will know what it means, so I might start adding approximate instead of ?.
Bob, you asked for more information and Mike provided it. I don’t see how that is a problem for you.
Maybe instead of the question mark, it might be better to use the mathematical tilde symbol (~) for an approximation. When you list 1985 – 1998?, is that 1985 an exact date or an approximation? I don’t know from just the one question mark.
I suggest that ~1985 – ~1998 might state things clearly. That question mark can confuse things.
Michael; How is your Website that will list all of Mike Rivest’s theaters, but will be PERFECT coming along? I’ll be glad when it’s done so I can use yours instead of his and won’t have to use any typically questionable data.
Opened in 1985??? That sounds like typically questionable Rivest data.
I don’t have an exact opening date, but I do have data from 1977 indicating it was operating then (as a three-screener). So, it opened at least eight years before the 1985 claim. (I wonder if Rivest’s 1985 claim is actually a typo for 1975?)
