The recent opening October 1) of the new Dixie Theatre in Ocala was noted in the October 7, 1923 issue of Film Daily. The June 20, 1925 Motion Picture News noted that the Dixie was one of two Ocala houses (the Temple was the other) recently acquired by E. J. Sparks on behalf of Famous Players.
The former theater is to the left of the three story building. Photo from the Ocala High School Class of 1957 – Old Ocala photos.
Opened October 1, 1923 managed by A.R. Nininger.
I think the correct address is 26 S. Magnolia Avenue, just opposite the downtown square.
I found it listed on Magnolia Street but that’s all homes. So is Magnolia and Magnolia Avenue. The only one that could work is North Magnolia Avenue, that seems to be a business street.
Anibal, if you know the building still stands and is now a store, what is the address?
Open ~1923-~1955 approximate? Your all welcome to verify those dates.
Also owned by Florida State Theaters, Inc. (Affilliated with American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.) of Jacksonville, Fla. Louis J. Finske, President.
Anyone know the address, more info,or photos?
There are a few buildings facing the square that look like they could’ve been theaters, but I’m not positive about any of them.
