Palace Cinema Chorlton-cum-Hardy 1958

Located in the south Manchester district of Chorlton-cum-Hardy at the corner of Barlow Moor Road and Malton Avenue. The Palais De Luxe Cinema opened in May 1914. In around 1946 it was re-named Palace Cinema.

It was always independently operated and closed on 4th December 1957 with Jack Palance in "The Lonely Man" and Fernando Lamas in "Lost Treasure of the Amazon".

It was converted into a Tesco supermarket, and operates today as a Co-op supermarket. The front of the building has been removed.

This must have been the first cinema I ever visited in Chorlton and I was so sad when some friends and me arrived on our bikes at the rear to watch the partial demolition. I think we were aged about 9 or 10.
