Opened on Thursday, December 25, 1969, Adults $1.75, Students with AMC Cards $1.25, under 12 $.75 Grand Opening films were: James Garner in “Marlowe”, Paul Newman and Robert Redford in “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, Steve McQueen in “The Reivers” and “This Is My Alaska”.
In 1977, the Hillcrest 4 hosted the “world premiere” of the super cheesy movie “Supervan” (the movie had been filmed in the area).
Hillcrest 4 closed in December 1999. The correct address is 617 N. Belt Highway (it is on the odd number side). As to the earlier comments, Richard Durwood owned Crown Cinema Corp. including the Hillcrest. His brother Stan Durwood was AMC. Both companies were officed in Kansas City. Crown Cinema operated from the VFW building.
Worked here during my high school years, from 1992-1995. Great place to work. However, it was so worn out and falling apart. Great memories!
AMC i think was founded in Missouri.
