A group of Owsley county citizens is seeking donations to restore the Seale (Booneville) theater. The theater closed in 1985 with “Silver Bullet”

The Louisville Courier-Journal reports that on June 7,1948 Charles L Seale opened Booneville’s first theater.
I am glad the PARK is still standing.It looked to be a community playhouse when I went by.If you go to the ROSA DRIVE-in in Middlesboro it will give you an idea where it was,sorta out by the Mall if i remember,in that direction.
I was passing by Ewing on 58 Alternate and noticed the rear of a large building that I thought may have been a theater. I doubled back and was wrong, but when I looked in the other direction, there was the Ewing. I didn’t know it existed because I hadn’t planned to be in Virginia (long story,) so I hadn’t researched it. And I was wrong about the Park. I did get pics of it on Saturday.
I was thinking about the EWING.It is on CT.Most of the ROSA Drive-in was standing last time i was in Middlesboro,but someone posted on the ROSA site on CT it is a Big Truck Stop.

I stumbled onto a couple on my trip last weekend. The Ewing in Ewing, Virginia, and two drive-ins, the Lonesome Pine and Central, also in Virginia. I was in Middlesboro, but missed the Park. I was able to keep away from the interstates for all but the drive from home to Lexington and from Lexington to home. Pretty proud of myself. ;–)
Middlesboro,Ky has a nice old Downtown theatre off the main Street.The Park.The Manring {fire brought it down} and Rosa Drive-in All on CT. Over the Mountain in Tazewell,Tenn is and old Drive-in{Tazewell Drive-in} on CT.Cumberland Gap,Tenn had a single screen.Some of the smaller towns in Virginia outside on Kentucky side there are a few old Theatres.Really,the best way,and I do it sometimes Is just get off the Interstate and take the backroads,but it is always rush.Hope you find some.
I just stumbled onto this one, so I can imagine that more are out there. Did you get pictures or remember locations?
Thanks Bill I have spotted quite a few old theatres in east Kentucky around the Cumberland Gap area.
