Cine Alcazar

A small cinema on the edge of the main market area of Tangier. It had closed by early-2022 and was undergoing renovation before reopening as a cinema again.

a photo i took in 2003 showing the Alcazar in a near derelict condition, since then it has been recorated externally

According to a letter in the July 2012 issue of ‘Sight& Sound’, published by the British Film Institute, the Alcazar was “given a lick of paint and kitted out with a couple of 1940s posters for Max Ophuls' "Sans lendemain” for an appearance in Bernardo Bertolucci’s “The Sheltering Sky” (1990)“.

The cinema appears briefly in Jim Jarmusch’s film “Only Lovers Left Alive.”
