The Wilson Theatre was opened in 1925. It was renamed Royal Theatre on September 8, 1933 with Lionel Barrymore in “Strangers Return” and a Little Rascal’s comedy short. It was still open in 1936, but by 1937 it was briefly renamed Hydro Theatre until the new Hydro Theatre opened in September 1937 (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures).

Fire insurance maps show theatres at 233 E. Main & 238 E. Main. The 238 location is labeled as a drug store circa 1928 but shows the stage and scenery at the rear of the structure. In 1918 it was labeled Opera House. The 233 location was labeled as a theatre in 1928. The entire south side of Main St. looks to have been leveled.

The Royal Theatre opened its doors on September 8, 1933 with Lionel Barrymore in “Strangers Return” along with an unnamed Little Rascals short, and was first managed by L.L. Shaw Jr.
