Located in the south Sydney suburb of Beverly Hills. The St. James Theatre was opened 22nd November 1940, with a seating capacity for 600, all on a single floor, with a raised stepped section at the rear. The brick facade was quite plain.
In the mid-1970’s, it became part of the Hoyts Theatres chain. It went into independent ownership, and was twinned, re-opening as the Beverly Hills Twin Cinema on 25th August 1983.
It was later operated by an independent operator, and has been sub-divided into 6-screens, in an expansion of the original building. In 2016 it was renamed GU Film House.

IN 2016 the Beverly Hills Cinemas were renamed GU FILM HOUSE. A new brand of cinema experience favoring smaller complexes. The other two GU FILM HOUSE cinemas are in South Australia. One in Adelaide City and the other at Glenelg.
