The site is now used by Crosslake Lutheran Church as a drive-in church which they use the ramps for.
There was a two-page story about the Marlow Mobil-Ins in the May 6, 1950 issue of Boxoffice. It’s probably the source of dallasmovietheaters' accurate summary above. “So far as it is known, his theatre on wheels is the first and only such setup in the United States or Canada.” He had to run the popcorn machine before the show because there wasn’t sufficient electricity to do so during the movie.
Very technically, the name of the theatre operation according to multiple sources is the Marlow Mobil-In operated by John Rohr of the Marlow Theatre in Pine River. He decided to create a mobile drive-in operation in 1948 beginning June 17, 1948 in Crosslake. In July and August, Rohr created two more locations of the Marlow Mobil-In Theatre Circuit in Longville and a spot between Backus and Hackensack.
The address for this Drive-in is 14000 Daggett Pine Road, Crosslake, MN 56442.
Ramps are still visible.
Please update.
thanks Chuck and Bob.
