photo from Mr. Lynch is the same photo in the dead link, taken in 1950.
Early `50s photo added via Edward Sunjunkuru Lynch‎. Already closed and advertising the Olympia Theatre. Possibly the same image from the now dead 2011 link.
The Theatre Historical Society archive in Illinois has the MGM Theatre Report for the Broadway Theatre. Listed at 420 Broadway; it was Closed at the time. It had 804 orchestra seats and 386 balcony seats, total: 1,190. There is an exterior photo take April 1941. The theater had a fancy marquee which read “Closed – Visit the Olympia”.
May have been owned until 1955 but it was closed as a theatre around 1950.
Open ~1916/1917-~1955? Can anyone verify the exact dates?
Owners:
1930 Publix Theatres Corp.
1935-1945 M&P Theatres, Mullins and Pinaski, (Paramount Affiliate)
1950-1955 New England Theatres, Inc., (Affillated with American Broadcasting Companies, Inc.) of Boston, Chester L. Stoddard, President. They had 8 theaters in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
More info and more photos always welcome.
link shows another location but type in the location of the theatre and click on the 1955 aerial map and it shows it already demolished and in use as a parking lot…
