Located in the Footscray district of Melbourne. The La Scala Cinema was built and opened in 1957 with Gina Lollobrigida in “Bread, Love and Money”. Seating was provided for 800 on a stadium plan, with a raised stepped section at the rear. The cinema catered for the local Italian immigrant community.
It was closed in 1972, and was converted into a reception hall. The building was sold in April 1998, with plans to convert to entertainment use, but it has sat empty and unused since then.
