Moonlight interior #1

This building has a strange history. Originally built as a retail outlet in the 1910’s, it was converted to the Lark Theatre, opening on September 15, 1922. Seating was provided for around 300 in the orchestra and 150 in the balcony.

The theatre closed in 1967 and the building returned to retail, first as a Western Auto store and later as various businesses. Now it is back to being a theater. The front of the building is a full service pizza parlor. In the back part to the space is the Moonlight Theater which seats around 100 people. Rows are divided with tables for beer and pizza slices. Films were current second run using 35mm film. It has now been equipped with digital projection and plays first run movies.

The November 4, 1922 issue of Moving Picture World had this announcement: “F. E. O'Neil, of McMinnville, Oregon, opened a new theatre in that city September 15, and has been maintaining record attendance for his district since the opening. O'Neil’s new theatre is called ‘The Lark.’”
