North 11 Drive-In

The Broadway Drive-In was opened in 1949 by Charles A. Broadway Jr. He operated it from 1950 until 1972. It was leased by a new operator and was renamed North 11 Drive-In and was Kinston’s last surviving drive-in theatre, operating 1985.

Throughout the 1970’s, it was Kinston and Lenoir County’s only dedicated adult theatre, showing X-rated films exclusively. The North 11 Drive-In was located on NC Highway 11 North just south of Graingers, with the southern end of Smith Colony Road terminating at the theatre entrance. All that remained of the North 11 Drive-In for many years was its marquee (an inverted trapezoid-shaped sign), driveway and ticket booth.

NightHawk1 your posting is wrong. Marquee and Box office still stands today. Not in great shape but still there. Also when the North 11 starting showing X Rated films it had to put up the lights so that the general public (kids) couldn’t see it from the road. It never showed x Rated films without the lights. Drive-In closed in 1985. My farther leased and ran the property from the Broadway family from 1972 until 1985.
