The New Kinema was opened in December 1934. It was built for Messrs. Andrews and there is a possibility (not verified) that Bristol architect William Henry Watkins was involved with the building. There were 454 seats in the stalls and 70 seats in the small circle. The proscenium was 28 feet wide. It was equipped with a BA(British Acoustic) sound system.
In 1945, a new company Clifton Cinema (Trowbridge) Ltd. was set up to purchase the New Kinema, and it passed over to the Clifton Cinemas chain. The New Cinema was closed on 23rd May 1953.
It was taken over by an estate agents and mortgage broker. It was demolished in the 1960’s and the Shires Shopping Centre was built on an extended site.

This is totally incorrect . This cinema closed on Saturday 23rd May 1953 and never reopened as a cinema ever again . It was turned into an Estate Agents and Mortgage Broker Denis Mugford in the 60s and was eventually demolished in the 1980s to make way for the Shires Shopping centre
