It is said that the Newsreel Theatre was a drab little cinema that dated back to silent picture days. Built on a reverse floorplan, which means auditorium seats faced lobby doors and the projection booth was located in building rear along the alley wall.
Before WWII the Newsreel Theatre specialized in alternating an hour of newsreels between one 60 minute B-picture. During war years only newreels were shown. Soon after the war ended the theatre converted to commercial use.
Today Mama’s Smokin Aces Saloon occupies this space, but the ancient projection is still in place overlooking the bar room.
