NightHawk1 is correct: the building was not demolished but converted to retail.
This theater may not have been demolished but instead divided into retail shops. The building housing the Glidden Paint store looks like a converted cinema.
I remember this cinema well. During my six week tour at Fort Bragg in 1981 the Eutaw was my group’s primary movie destination for films such as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY and DRAGON SLAYER.
STAR WARS played here TWICE during many of it’s re-releases. The first re-release was on July 21,1978. The other was in August of 1979.
Also, an interesting piece of information from Edward Jay Epstein’s book The Hollywood Economist is that in 1990, the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) required any auditorium (ie, seats per screen) to have handicap accessibility for every row if there were more than 299 seats in the auditorium, thus inadvertently encouraging many theaters to close (rather than incur renovation costs) any theaters with auditoriums of 300+ seats…
Carmike Cinemas acquired the Consolidated Theaters chain in 1989, so, technically, it would be Carmike that closed the theater in 1991.
Consolidated was a big chain in the Carolinas, don’t recall any in Georgia. Two pretty good flicks to open with.
June 12,1981….RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK played here at the Eutaw Twin first-run
