Located in the centre of Hertford. The Premier Theatre was a purpose-built cinema, erected beside the White Hart Hotel. It opened on 24th December 1910. All seating was on a single level and the prsocenium was 30 feet wide. Variety acts were introduced as part of the programme from 1914.
In December 1920, new owners took over and it was re-named Popular Picture Playhouse, which ran until 24th September 1921. By the mid-1920’s it had dropped films and was presenting variety acts only as the Premier Theatre of Varieties, which closed in April 1929.
British Thomas-Houston(BTH) sound equipment was installed and it re-opened as the Regent Cinema on 26th September 1932. The Regent Cinema was closed in May 1943.
The auditorium became a small factory, while the foyer became a hairdresser’s and by 2016 it was a flower shop.

As can be seen from my photograph, by September 2016 the hairdressers had moved out and a florists had moved in.
