Lake Theatre

Opened by 1939 as the Grove Theatre, it was renamed Babb Theatre by 1943. A display advertisement for the Lake Theatre appeared in the 1955 Grove High School Ridgerunner Yearbook (p73), along with a sharp exterior photograph. Another advertisement, with a photo of the boxoffice (p93), ran in the 1961 Yearbook edition.

The Lake Theatre exterior was constructed in a Streamline Moderne design. Black glass and white terra cotta formed horizontal stripes which made for a smart look.

Grove is a lake resort community with an economy dependent on tourist trade, so surely the Lake Theatre was able to cash in on this fact.
