Located in Southampton city centre. The Royal York Pavilion Music Hall was opened on 9th December 1872. It was rebuilt in 1898 to the plans of architect Walter Emden and was re-opened on 28th March 1898 as the Royal York Palace of Varieties.
On 15th March 1908, it featured the Bioscope as part of its programming, and was operated by the MacNaghten Vaudeville Circuit. From 16th April 1910, Animated Pictures were screened on Sundays for a short season (live performances were not allowed on Sundays). Prayers were said before each performance.
The Palace of Varieties was destroyed by German bombs on 1st December 1940.
