The plot purchased by V.U. Young was in Miller at Sixth and Lake streets and was to be used to erect an ultra-modern theater.
The theater seated 760, according to Film Daily Year Book. This might have been a Y&W theater. In January 1946 V.U. Young, who was then president of Y&W Management Corp., purchased a vacant site in Miller.
In the late 40’s the theatre had a movie/stage show policy that I remember seeing as a child. The interior of the theatre was in the Skouras style so popular at the time . It also had a nursery room for small children. The stage show appeared to be to be of the big band type. I doubt that the stage had a fly house as the main curtain was a venetian puff although what did they do with the screen during the stage shows??

The address of the Centier Bank branch now located in the former Miller Theatre building is 650 S. Lake Street. The Miller Historical Society has an early photo of the theater on its Facebook page.
The facade is little changed, aside from the addition of the faux gable and the removal of the vertical sign which once rose from the left corner of the front. The theater didn’t have much of a marquee- just a shallow canopy- probably due to the sidewalk being so narrow. Oddly, there was no attraction board on the front, either. There might have been one on the side of the building facing the parking area.
