The Southern Theatre was opened by November 1914.. In 1938 it was owned and operated by George and Samuel Felt. A neighborhood double-feature house that sometimes showed Italian films. By 1950 it was operated by the A.M. Ellis Theaters Co. chain. It was closed in 1952 and converted into a private meeting hall. By 2022 it was in use as Kevin O'Brien Studio, a fabrics and household materials store.

Yes Tinseltoes, the Southern Theatre is still standing! Since July 2012, the month before your comment, the theater has been home to the Kevin O'Brien Studio, a textile design center. The upper portion of the façade remains as it was when it was a theater. At street level, a modern front now covers the old theater façade. You can visit it above. Enjoy!
