Green Lane Picture House

Located in the east Birmingham district of Small Heath. The Green Lane Picture House was opened on 2nd February 1914. Just prior to the opening, part of the roof fell in, causing some delay, but nobody was hurt. Seating was provided for 900.

In 1935, it was modernised and re-opened as the New Green Lane Cinema. By the early-1940’s it had reverted back to the Green Lane Picture House name. Seating was now provided for 772.

It was closed in 1957, and was purchased by John Blundell and used as one of his chain of furniture stores. By 2009, the building has been in use as B.J. Cash & Carry, with the height of the auditorium reduced by an entire storey. The Cash & Carry closed in September 2016.
