Folkoperan

Located in the southern part of Stockholm city centre. The Biografen Rio was opened on 24th November 1928. Seating was provided for 665 in the orchestra and 337 in the balcony levels.

It was taken over by the SF chain in 1933 and was re-named Biografen Garbio, after Swedish film actress Greta Garbo. It was re-named Biografen Ricardo in 1959 when it was taken over by the Ri-Teatrarna chain. It closed as a cinema on 31st October 1986.

It was converted into an opera house named Folkoperan (opera for the people-sung in Swedish).

Here is a picture of the theatre when it was the Biografen Garbio.

35 and 70 mm-projection. I have seen “The Sound of Music” and “Spartacus” i 70 mm in this teatre.
