Palatine Picture House

Located in West Didsbury, south of Manchester. The Palatine Picture House and Café was opened in 1920. The auditorium ran parallel to Palatine Road at Ballbrook Avenue, with the entrance on the right hand side. A ground floor café was included in the design, which proved very popular.

By the late-1930’s it had been taken over by the H.D. Moorhouse Circuit. The Palatine Picture House was closed on 26th March 1960 with Ted Ray in “Please Turn Over” and Conrad Phillips in “The Desperate Man”. The building was empty and unused for some time before it was demolished in the early-1990’s and a Job Centre now stands on an expanded site.
