The Addison

Located in the Marrickville suburb of Sydney. The Victory Theatre was opened 29th October 1924 with 2,061 seats in stalls and balcony levels. It was refurbished in 1930 and the seating capacity was reduced to 1,839. It also had a change of named to Addison Theatre in December 1931. Operated by Acme Theatres (a subsidiary of Greater Union Theatres) from October 1943, the Addison Theatre was a typical suburban cinema, running double bills every week.

Closed on 21st June 1958 with Frank Sinatra & Sophia Loren in “The Pride and the Passion”. The Addison Theatre was sold to the Shell Oil Company on 5th August 1959 and was demolished. A gas station occupies the site today.

The gas station is now called Metro Petroleum Petrol Station and Marrickville Auto Repair.
